NBA Play In Tournament live stream: Memphis Grizzlies vs San Antonio Spurs Match Preview

Memphis Grizzlies

The Grizzlies lost to the Warriors 113-101 and failed to cover the spread as 3.5-point underdogs while going under the 228 point total in their last outing on Sunday. Jonas Valanciunas racked up a team-high 29 points in the loss.

Memphis’s rebounding leader is Valanciunas, who pulls down 12.5 per game. Grayson Allen hits 2.1 threes per game to lead the Grizzlies.

Their steals leader is De’Anthony Melton, who collects 1.2 per game. Brandon Clarke leads the team averaging 0.9 blocks a contest.

San Antonio Spurs

Their last time out, the Spurs saw DeMar DeRozan score a team-high 23 points in a 123-121 loss to the Suns on Sunday.

They covered the spread as 2.5-point underdogs, and the teams scored 244 total points to top the 220.5-point over/under.

San Antonio has outperformed the spread so far this season with a record of 39-32-1. For the 20th time this season, the Spurs are at least a 3.5-point underdog, where they have a record of 9-10 against the spread.

Kawhi Leonard scored 20 points and the San Antonio Spurs routed the Memphis Grizzlies, 106-74, at the AT&T Center on Sunday night, taking a 1-0 lead in their first-round Western Conference playoff series.

The Grizzlies actually made things tough for the Spurs early, holding Gregg Popovich’s club to under 30-percent shooting in the first quarter.

Late in the second period, San Antonio only led 39-37, but the Spurs closed the half on a quick 9-0 run to take a 48-37 advantage into the break.

From that point on, it was all Spurs.

San Antonio promptly blew it open in the third quarter, outscoring Memphis 33-14.

That doesn’t mean the road for either team will be easy. Even the victor will face long odds in a winner-take-all battle with the loser of Wednesday’s highly anticipated Lakers-Warriors bout. But San Antonio’s decades-long playoff streak was snapped last season, and the Grizzlies are still only midway through a rebuild. At this stage, both teams have everything to gain and little to lose, so let’s dive into what our experts expect from the Spurs and Grizzlies.

As a team, San Antonio shot 51.9 percent and went 10-of-23 from three-point range.

Vince Carted led Memphis with 16 points.

Lance Stephenson was the only other Grizzly in double figures with 14.

Memphis shot 39.2 percent overall.

Game 2 is Tuesday night at the AT&T Center at 9:30 p.m. ET.

It won’t draw quite as much attention as the Western Conference’s glitzier No. 7 vs. No. 8 matchup, but the Memphis Grizzlies and San Antonio Spurs offer a very different sort of appeal as a play-in matchup. This game is a glimpse into the conference’s future. Memphis centerpieces Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. have yet to reach the playoffs, and while the Spurs boast a slightly more balanced group in terms of age, many of their core pieces are postseason neophytes as well.
